About Us

In Good Company Counselling (IGC) was founded on the principle that counselling does not need to be stuffy, pretentious, or overly clinical but rather approachable, transparent, and open. We actively work to accomplish these principles by how we present ourselves as practitioners, the design of our space, and the way in which we communicate with clients. In doing so, we hope to centre an experience of genuine connection between a client and therapist. A relationship unlike any other that we view as integral to our collective pursuit of healing, wholeness, and greater understanding.

Getting to this moment has been no easy task and seeking help is full of unknowns. Perhaps you want to better understand patterns in your life or rekindle meaningful connections in your relationship(s). Maybe you have experienced a life-altering event, trauma or face ongoing survivorship and are looking for a space to process and heal from these events. Each of our counsellors incorporates a trauma-informed lens while welcoming all of the uniqueness and complexity that comes with you and your story.

Supporting Your Journey

We acknowledge that finding the right therapist can be a challenging process. As a group practice, we aim to promote the diversity of lived experience, training, and education amongst our counsellors to help you find the right fit. Whether it’s your first time or you have pursued counselling before, our master-level Registered Clinical Counsellors are committed to a collaborative partnership that continuously highlights your inherent wisdom and life experience while bringing to light the areas of concern that brought you to therapy.

In addition to common mental health concerns (anxiety, depression, communication, stress, etc.), IGC specializes in working with clients who experience survivorship (sexual abuse, cancer, suicide, etc.), face issues around sex and sexuality (performance, identity, kink, non-monogamy, etc.), as well as single-event and ongoing trauma (religious, sexual, intergenerational, etc.).

Our Values

  • Mental health services should be accessible to everyone. The IGC team is committed to ensuring that a client's unique needs do not become barriers to this support. We offer a variety of session formats, sliding scale rates and a network of community resources to help ensure we can support folks in their journey.

  • Part of our work is to understand how our own field has historically and continues to perpetuate harm and oppression. Each member of our team is anti-racist, LGBTQ2IA+ informed, embraces kink and non-monogamy, as well as trauma-informed. We actively bring oppressive forces (colonization, patriarchy, heteronormativity) into the counselling space to aid our clients in dismantling the influence these oppressive systems have in their lives.

  • We believe that each of us has inherent wisdom and understanding of ourselves and our needs. Our team respects and promotes the right to choice and consent during their work in therapy while remaining curious and collaborative on the best approach to the client’s concerns.

  • The needs of our community are as dynamic as any one individual. IGC Counselling is committed to community engagement, ongoing education, and continued curiosity around the mental health concerns of our greater community. In addition to private practice, many members of the IGC team also provide services in agencies or public health settings.

  • We believe therapy to be most effective when approached from a holistic lens that embraces each person's many facets and identities while maintaining a continued commitment to understanding the ongoing impacts of systems of oppression and their presenting issues.

  • All identities and lived experiences are welcome at IGC. We acknowledge that historically marginalized groups such as BIPOC and 2SLBTQIA+ have been discriminated against and attacked for their existence. We strive to have a supportive and caring space for our clients.

  • As we work to decentre the historically marginalizing practices of our field and demystify the therapy process, transparency is both an essential and necessary obligation. We maintain that clients in our care have the right to understand whom they are working with, the methods and approaches they use, and what one might expect in this process.
