My Approach

Reaching out for therapy is a courageous first step, and I welcome you! This process won’t always be easy, but I am here to support you. I have come to the counselling profession after a decade in the health profession as a registered nurse in hospital settings and in community outreach, and I offer a wealth of experience in supporting people experiencing trauma and challenging times.

In our polarizing times, differences often seem insurmountable and division is often more common than connection is. I am passionate about attending to relational challenges, as fostering communication, understanding, and empathy can bridge these divides, offering greater connection in our lives. Whether it's helping individuals navigate internal dialogue or personal relationships, feeling connected to yourself, to others, and to your emotions is key.

I share the view that you are the expert in your own life, with my role being a catalyst to help make apparent what may be hidden within. To acknowledge that we do not exist in isolation also highlights we are the product of a complex web of relationships. As we work collaboratively to find a path forward, I will honour your relationships with family, partners, friends, and your chosen communities through an anti-oppressive, multicultural, feminist-informed lens. My aim is to offer and co-create a compassionate, non-judgemental space where you feel supported to discover and reconnect with your values, your community, and your authentic self.

My counselling style is non-shaming, caring, affirming, and strengths-based; my communication style is transparent and direct. I find myself most often combining both traditional talk-therapy modalities, such as Emotion Focused Therapy, while highlighting the role of the body through somatic approaches. Together, our work is centred on helping you to access and process your emotions as well as discover the deep emotional knowing that exists within your body. I also draw from attachment theory emphasizing the lasting impact that early attachment relationships have on how individuals approach romantic relationships, friendships, and parenting relationships as adults

I offer counselling to both individuals and couples/relationships and welcome any questions or concerns you may have about the counselling process.

  • Hello, I’m Nadia, a queer Haitian-Italian Canadian-born settler living on the stolen, unceded lands of the Coast Salish peoples.

According to social rules and expectations, I did most things backwards! I returned to school in my early thirties to obtain my bachelor’s degree in nursing, I came out as queer at age 36, made the decision to attend graduate school at 43, I married my wife at 44 and am currently expecting our first child!

I grew up deeply entrenched in colonial, patriarchal, heteronormative ideology, and my awakening has been both painful and rewarding. Negotiating life’s responsibilities while living a life that is a true reflection of my values taught me how challenging this path to authenticity can be. I understand that this journey is not linear and looks different for everyone - I believe, however, that all people possess the innate capacity to heal themselves and are drawn to that end.

My role is to walk alongside you in this endeavour. In my everyday life, I lovingly hold the roles of auntie, big sister, daughter, loyal friend, wife, and soon-to-be mother. I am an extroverted introvert who feels recharged and revitalized after spending quality time outdoors and with loved ones.
